There is nothing in the law to prohibit more than one state from collecting support. Obviously, however, only one order can be effective at any one time and, of course, one cannot be made to pay more than what was ordered.
I currently have a disable father in Arizona with child support orders from three states on the same child, for the same time periods. All three have attachments on his SSD, plus the mother gets the SSD child benefit check. She filed and was awarded child support in Arizona, than moved to New Mexico, filed and got a default order since he couldn't attend the hearing, or hire an attorney, than she moved to Arkansas where she filed again. All three state want jurisdiction as it benefits them financially. The man is a brain injury victim, so his mother is taking care of all this to the best of her ability.
