Yes.
In Iowa the AOC laws apply to older minors as well as adults, that being the case the 17-year-old could be charged with a criminal offense.
The AOC for the state is 16, therefore, the 5 year age discrepancy clause is irrelevant.
legal age of consent in Iowa is 16 but Iowa's criminal code states that someone 14 or 15 can consent to sexual contact with someone that's age is no more than 4 years their senior...so no you can not be charged with any crime

∙ 11y agoNope. Iowa's sex age is 16, however 14 and 15 year olds can be with someone within 4 years of their own age. Also, if the relationship isn't sexual you have even less to worry about, there are no laws about simply dating (although if they were under 14 even just kissing could get you in trouble due to the statutory rape laws)
