Well, From what I am understanding the answer is no. Tracfone is weird, because the SIM card serves no purpose, but it's cell phones wont work without it. All information is stored in the phone. Also, Tracfone's SIM cards have GSM with a CDMA lock on it. Basically, It has to do with how signals are received from the cell phone towers. However, I am trying to do the same thing right now, and maybe get a good result. =/

From tekgek:

From my experience, yes, you can. Put the sim card in an unlocked phone, and it should work. I tried this with a nokia e51 and n81, and was able to send and receive calls. (Don't know about any of the other features). The only thing that you will lose is the ability to see how many units you have left. If that does not matter, then go ahead!

From Spyguy10709

You really cannot do this. tracfone locks your IMEI of your SIM card to the IMEI of your phone. Unless you work there, you can't get around this. Sorry!

Is there an easy way to find out whether or not the used cell phones I look at are unlocked?

Yes it is possible to see if your phone is unlocked. You can borrow a sim card from someone who has a cellphone with a different service company. If the card works and the phone thinks its your friends phone then your phone is unlocked.

Can you put a never been used Tracfone sim card in an iPhone?

Can you take your old net10 sim card and put it in to your new net10 phone and receive the call that would have went to your old phone and if there was minutes on your old phone will they be on my new?

The TracFone / NET10 SIM Card is very unique. It can only be used in a phone sold by TracFone or NET10. Once a phone is activated the SIM Card is tied to the Serial Number of the phone. It can not be removed and placed in a different TracFone or NET10 phone. It has to stay with the phone it was originally activated in. The units/minutes are not stored on the SIM Card they are stored in the phone itself. The TracFone / NET10 SIM Card can not be used in any other GSM technology phone. TracFone and NET10 both have an elaborate database of all the phones they have ever sold in it. You can not activate a phone unless the Serial Number is in their database. If you purchase a phone that has not been properly scanned by a retailer you will not be able to activate it.=You can not change the SIM Card and activate a TracFone on the NET10 website and you can not change the SIM Card and activate a NET10 phone on the TracFone website. If you try you will be directed to the proper website for activation.==There are three types of SIM cards currently being used by TracFone and NET10 depending on the Zip Code you will be using the phone in the most. SIM cards with a part number ending in C4 are on the AT&T/Cingular network, cards ending in T5 are on the T-Mobile network and cards ending in D6 are on the Dobson network which was recently acquired by AT&T.==You do not have to buy a SIM Card for a TracFone or a NET10 phone. A replacement SIM Card will be sent to you FREE of charge if you request one. You can call TracFone Customer Service at 1-800-867-7183 or NET10 Customer Service at 1-877-836-2368 . When you call press 1 for English, press 4 when the first menu starts then press 5 when the second menu starts to talk to a Customer Service Representative. The replacement SIM Card will be shipped to you by Express Delivery.==Do not be fooled by eBay sellers claiming their TracFone / NET10 SIM Card includes 10 to 20 units/minutes. A TracFone / NET10 SIM Card does not include any units/minutes. A new or reconditioned TracFone or NET10 phone comes with Starter units/minutes when activated. This is done by the Serial Number of the new or reconditioned phone. It has nothing to do with the SIM Card.==Note: A TracFone SIM Card is used in both a TracFone and a NET10 phone. NET10 is considered to be the Frequent User Division of TracFone.=

what unlocked phones can be used with an ATT account We need to replace an ATT phone, don't want to pay retail for a new phone and aren't ready to renew the 2 year contract?

An unlocked phone can accept the SIM card from any cell phone provider. If you have an ATT SIM card, you can use it in an unlocked phone. A locked phone is created by the provider to force the use of its service; an unlocked phone can take any SIM card.

Can AT and T Go Phone SIM cards be used in unlocked cell phones?

Hi, yes a at&t Sim card will work on any unlocked phone

Does an unlocked phone mean its used?

For a cell phone to be unlocked, it means that the phone is able to use any SIM card from any phone network type. For example, a locked Verizon Wireless phone would be unable to accept and function with an AT&T SIM card, whilst an unlocked Verizon Wireless phone would be able to accept and function with an AT&T SIM card.

Can you buy an unlocked phone and make it a go phone with a go phone SIM card?

Sim Card SwitcharooMost phones that accept a SIM card can be unlocked and used for any service that uses SIM card technology. AT&T and Tmobile phones & SIM cards can be used in this way. However Tracfone and Net10 phones and SIM cards cannot. For AT&T and Tmobile, Prepaid or Contract makes no difference. I use my ATT / Cingular contract service SIM in a T-Mobile Prepaid phone. (unlocked of course). The unlocking bit, depending on the company that makes the phone, can get a little tricky; but if you put some time into searching, you can find the information you need for a small cost or most likely free altogether. I am leaving out info pertaining to technology compatibility as most state and abroad phones are GSM, and you most likely have a GSM SIM card.

Can you turn any phone into a tracfone?

There are two types of TracFones now, CDMA and GSM. This refers to the type of network used by the phone. And CDMA phone works only on CDMA networks, and same for GSM. GSM phones have SIM cards, CDMA do not (for the purpose of this discussion, anyway). I'm not clear on your reason for asking this question, but that's your answer. A CDMA phone does not have a SIM card. For more on CDMA vs. GSM Tracfones, check out this page: http://pbush14.wordpress.com/2008/03/16/tracfone-cdma-vs-gsm/ I should also clarify here that if your phone is a GSM phone, it MUST have a SIM card installed to operate. Also, to be used as a Tracfone, a phone must have the Tracfone software installed on it. This means that it must have been purchased as a "Tracfone" model. You can NOT bring a phone from a different service and use it as a Tracfone.

Can I use an unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2 with a Sprint contract - unlocked means no sprint or other company sign on the phone?

an unlocked phone could mean one of two things. One, the phone belongs to a GSM carrier (like T-mobile, or AT&T) but being that it is unlocked you can use it with any carrier that requires a sim card. The second can mean that it is a CDMA phone with GSM capabilities normally on a Sprint or Verizon Global phone meaning it is a CDMA phone with a sim card slot and as long as it is unlocked it can be used also with any other carrier that requires a sim card. However it has nothing to do with what is on the actual phone, so even if it says T-mobile it can still be an unlocked phone.

What is the difference between an unlocked phone and a phone purchased at a dealer?

An unlocked phone can be used with any cellular phone carrier SIM card making is transferable from carrier to carriers. Dealers keep their customers loyal to their wireless providers by "locking" the phone so only SIM cards from their systems can be used in their phones.

What is an unlocked phone used for?

An unlocked phone is when a phone isn't forced to be used with a certain network. It is available to be used with certain networks that accept these types of phones.
