Yes, this type of tragedy is more common than the ( it is a horrible analogy) joint booster-payload failure- I once heard a man joking about a woman having a child ( it was a celebrity_ and comparing the whole thing to a Bomb Scare- It took a while for me to get the ( Drift). It is more common that either A/. the Mother dies and the child survives, or B. the child is born dead- called stillbirth. of course both stages can misfire at once- and this tragedy can happen, though rare. It is one health problem people are most reluctant to discuss. On the other hand there are tragic murders of pregnant women- the current Pennsylvania Juvenile case- and historically the Manson Murders, etc. those are crimes- not accidents of birth.
In Canada and the united states under 20% of woman die during childbirth, but in Africa and other poor countries over 60% of woman die during childbirth because in the poor countries they don't have the professional equipment that we have in Canada so the woman mortality rate is higher
