Although it is biologically impossible for a single egg to be fertilized twice, it is possible for two different eggs to be released at the same and fertilized by different men resulting in fraternal twins each with a different father. Identical twins cannot have different fathers, but fraternal twins can. Keep in mind both men's sperm must be present to fertilize the eggs.

The term for the occurrence of fraternal twins being born with separate fathers (or triplets, ect. but ONLY fraternal) is called Hetero-paternal Superfecundation and is also referred to as bi-paternal twinning. Once thought to be very rare it is now estimated that one in twelve fraternal twins are actually are bi-paternal. (Wow!)

It's actually common in some other species for a litter to have mixed paternity.

Which type of twins develop from two fertilized eggs?

Twins from different eggs are fraternal twins. They are siblings with the same birthdate. They are twins, but not identical, and can even be girl and boy. It is the same process taking place as a single child that a woman becomes pregnant with, but the process happens with two children at the same time. The woman releases two eggs that month instead of one, and they both are fertilized. That is how this type of twin is produced.

Can two men get a woman pregnant?

Not at the same time to create a single baby. But it is possible that if the woman has two eggs then two different men can fertilize them, resulting in fraternal twins that are half-brothers.

Can you be impregnated by two men?

Can fraternal twins be black and white?

Yes, but not monozygotic twins. There are cases where a woman was impregnated by two (or more?) men very close in time to each other, and two ova were fertilized by different men. In that case black and white twins are quite possible.

Why do some twins look different?

Fraternal twins occur when two fertilized eggs are implanted in the uterine wall at the same time. When two eggs are independently fertilized by two different sperm cells, DZ twins result. The two eggs, or ova, form two zygotes, hence the terms zygotic and biovular.Identical twins occur when an egg splits into two; which makes them identical. Identical twins are not hereditary like fraternal twins can be. It is complete coincidence.

How does a pregnant women have twins?

There are two ways a woman can have twins. One way is that a woman releases two eggs when she ovulates. When her and her partner have sex, both of the eggs become fertilized. The other way is after a woman has sex and the egg is fertilized, it divides in half. When the egg divides in half, this is when you get identical twins.
