Yes a 11 year old can wear contact lenses. The question is .... is this 11 yr old responsible enough to manage and care for his or her eyes? Be trusted to do the right thing like removing them when the eye is red, burning, itching, pain etc. ? Keeping the lenses clean? hands clean? Disposing the lenses after its life span, 1 month or 2 weeks? Not sleeping in contacts? Not swimming in contacts? And not over wearing contacts? Totally up to the parents

∙ 13y agoYes of course it's perfectly normal for children to wear glasses! It depends really on all different people! Different people have different Vision but if your a male your more likely to be colour blind than a child. Anyway YES it is normal for a child to have glasses! Help I reassured you :-)

∙ 13y agoIt all depends on your optometrist, some think it's fine but others advise against it. I personally think it's fine because I am also thirteen and have many friends who wear contact lenses. My mom wants me to have glasses because they are relatively cheaper though. So yes I would just ask your optometrist.

You don't. The optometrist has to do a contact lens evaluation and fitting. Contact lenses Rx's are done separately,not to be mistaken for routine exam. Most insurances don't cover contact lens fittings. Contact lenses do not mean you can wear an old pair of glasses as backup. You will need a good pair of glasses with current Rx properly fitted. Contact lens Rx is good for one year to the day and glasses Rx is good for two years to the day.

It depends on the patient. Wearing contact lenses is a huge responsibility for someone that young. Hygeine is imperative, they must be kept as sterile as possible at all times. Lenses must also be handled with the greatest of care, even the slightest amount of damage to a lens can cause irritation and the patient needs to know what to do about it. The patient will also need to know what do if lens splits or a fragment breaks off in their eye, if this isn't dealt withcorrectly it could lead to a vry serious infection. If you are confident that a 13 year old can handle all the responsibility involved with wearing contact lenses, then they could wear them. However, you may struggle to find an Optometrist willing to prescribe them!
