American citizenship cannot be conveyed via marriage. The Canadian can apply for naturalization. American citizenship cannot be conveyed via marriage. The Canadian can apply for naturalization.

∙ 12y agoThe law in America is if your spouse is an American citizen and you have a legal wedding/cerimony the other if not already becomes an American citizen. In Canada the law could be different so check their laws.

∙ 13y agoThe answer is no. You still have to apply for Canadian Citizenship. The process does take a while. My friend who married a Canadian in Canada had to wait a year to officially live there.

∙ 12y agoNope. Not just by marrying. You still have to jump through a lot of hoops. And, although by marrying an American a foreigner acquires a right to reside in the US, the same is not true of Canada. You would have to have some other basis if you wanted to reside in Canada, other than simply marrying a Canadian.
