I am 22 and I still get croup so it is possible but rare in adults. So yes adults can get it too.

I am 39, just turned & have been sick for 4 1/2 weeks. I went to the doctor the day after I got sick...they gave me nothing. I went again at the 3 week mark asking for antibiotics, took them for 3 days before calling back & asking for a cough syrup. They gave me Benzonatate. I have been taking it 3 times a day & am no better. I have had a 5yr old & 10 yr old going through some of the same symptoms with one Ped. Dr. telling me she had border line walking pneumonia (the day before I went to the Dr. the 1st time) and now just took my 9yr old yesterday to find out that she (and probably myself) have the croup. We keep testing negative for flu. I am miserable and am now going into bouts of hyperventilating during coughing spats. I am old enough to prevent, however, no Doctor up until yesterday (and I saw two) came up with anything close to croup, gave me anything prior to me asking & still nothing to keep this from happening. Yes it can happen to adults! Be careful, you will be miserable should you happen across this & for a very long time!
