Lawsuits for Back Child Support
Generally, yes. Call your local child protection services office for instructions in your jurisdiction, including how long you have before it is too late to file. If you don't know the name of the local child protection services agency, call the local law enforcement office and ask them.
Here is more input and advice:
- If you sue all you will get is a big bill from your lawyer. If a parent has been fraudulent then the gov't will come after the money and the gov't will get the money ... not you! Don't waste your time or hard earned money.
- If the child support has already been court ordered there is no statute of limitiation. If you're trying to establish child support it will be more difficult.
- Yes, you can assuming that they never paid it and that you are not talking about child support that was sent to your mother or father that they used and you never saw any of it if they have never paid then you will have to take him or her to court and the judge will order that the back child support be paid and will usually deduct it directly from the paycheck.
