Can antibiotics interfere with the Depo shot? |
Answer
I made the mistake of taking antibiotics while on Depo - I got pregnant, so don't put all of your eggs in one basket, so to speak. So, basically, from personal experience, YES they definitely interfere with Depo.
Answer
Antibiotics affect every type of birth control not just the pill so be very careful if you are on antibiotics.
Answer
It depends on the type of antibiotic. Contact your doctor or pharmacist to see if the antibiotic will affect the depo.
Answer
I was told by my physician that antibiotics do NOT affect the depo provera because you do not ingest Depo like you do the medicine. Your body reacts a little differently on the Depo shot than the BC pill because you do not take it orally.
Answer
According to the pamphlet that I was given with the shot, it says that antibiotics can make the shot ineffective. You may want to speak to your pharmacist and your doctor before going on ANY type of antibiotics. I have been on the Depo shot for almost 1 1/2 years.
I made the mistake of not discussing the antibiotics with my pharmacist - my doctor already knew. I was on antibiotics for almost 3 weeks straight (2 types - trying to get rid of a severe bronchial infection). The length of time and strength of the antibiotics did affect the shot. I am over 3 weeks pregnant.
Answer
INVALID: Inaccurate answer as Johns Hopkins is referring to ORAL contraception only in the article.
"Johns Hopkins disagrees that antibiotics affect chemical contraception.
