Can banks give out account information to someone not on the account?

Answer:

Answer

No, not unless there is a court order, this is why creditors request a copy of a potential borrower's bank statement. However, judgment creditors are extremely good at finding where a debtor has bank accounts so said judgment can be executed as a bank levy. The methods in which this is accomplished are not illegal but are often misleading. When this does happen, the bank cannot be held liable for having released the information.
