Yes on the lowest setting and most people crack the door. Although it depends on the oven in question. Convection just have a fan in them to create the convection environment. To dehydrate food you need a steady and low (sub 200 F in most cases) to not cook them.

Can you use foil in convection oven?

Yes, you can use foil in convection ovens and regular ovens alike (despite the different names all ovens are convection ovens, ovens labeled convection ovens are just faster). However, NEVER and I mean NEVER use foil in a microwave. How to Avoid Buying Ill-Suited Food Dehydrators?

Food dehydrators are appliances that you can use to remove moisture from foods in order to preserve it. To lessen the water content of foods, food dehydrators apply heat and air flow. The water content of foods is typically very high, usually from 80% to 90% for varieties of fruits and 50% to 75% for varieties of meats. It is essential to remove moisture from certain food in order to avoid different bacteria from spoiling your food. But, removing moisture from certain food can reduce the weight of the food. So a food dehydrator is used in order to preserve and prolong the life of certain foods. Its basic parts typically consist of a heating element, fan, and air vents. If you’re planning on purchasing food dehydrators here are some ways to avoid choosing a food dehydrator that does not suit you. ❖ Y should first consider what kind of foods you wish to place into your food dehydrators. Why? Because various foods dry in different time gap and typically need different amounts of energy. If you want to buy food dehydrators for various foods it might be a good idea to purchase two smaller dehydrators as a substitute for one large food dehydrator. In this way you can use your food dehydrators more efficiently and equal their required energy to dry certain food. Most of all don’t mix various foods at the same time. Meat is meat and fruits are fruits; keep them separate. ❖ Give attention to the connection between the watts used and the amount of trays. If you have medium size dehydrators, which typically have 4 and 9 trays, it is recommended that you have around 500 W or so food dehydrators. But, if the wattage is higher than the amount of trays there is a possibility that you’ll dry your food too fast. If you purchase a big food dehydrator like above 20 trays, make sure you have sufficient wattage to dehydrate everything, maybe 1000 W or more or else the food you’re planning to dry won’t dry in the allotted time. ❖ Don’t purchase cheap food dehydrators. Purchasing cheap food dehydrators with name brand is not recommended because these food dehydrators often can’t even dehydrate certain foods. Also, it can produce heat but it can’t properly dry food and worse it won’t last long. Some of the best-known brands when it comes to food dehydrators are Nesco food dehydrators and Excalibur food dehydrators. Good-quality food dehydrators should probably cost less than $100. Now you know which food dehydrators to avoid. So, you don’t need lots of money for a pack of dried fruits at your local supermarket when in fact you can do it yourself. Most of all food dehydrators offer a great way to have a healthy snack.
