Yes, it can. However, the high from delsym isn't as strong as the high from robitussin cough gels or zicam. The reason for this is delsym is time released. The high lasts longer but lacks intensity. Both products contain the active ingredient dextromethorphan therefore it should NOT be recommended for a 10 year old to take both at the same time. Even though the Pediacare dosage for dextromethorphan does not seem as high as the dosage for Delsym the Pediacare is given more frequently and both are at the max dose already. Since Delsym lasts longer my recommendation would be to give a dose of Delsym before the child goes to sleep at night instead of a dose of Pediacare to prevent them from waking up in the middle of the night with a cough. In addition giving them some acetaminophen (Tylenol) in addition to the Delsym at bedtime should help with the fever since it is an ingredient in Pediacare that is not in Delsym. You can always stop and ask the Pharmacist for advice as well.
