Just to clarify on the answers given. The LNBs are different for DISH Network and DTV along with the receivers. The LNB and receiver takes the signal from the satellite and gives you your signal on your TV. As stated, you can't use different receivers and LNB from different companies. The dish outside does not matter, just the LNB and receiver.

Simply, no. The satellite dishes use different switching schemes internally for accessing the satellite transponders.

Bull....loney. I'm using an old 18" DirecTV dish to receive signals from a Dishnetworks satellite at 119W. The satellite receivers will be different because different signalling protocols are used.

Hi! I happened to run across your question just wanted to provide some clarification & confirm a DirecTV satellite dish will not work with our DISH Network programming, the alignment of the dish is different because our DISH Network programming is shown using different satellite orbital's than DirecTV's. I hope this answers your question or helps!

Kirstie,

We're only talking about the dish and associated hardware and not the receiver. The DirectTV satellite dish will work with the Dish receiver when the dish is properly oriented to the satellite that Dish Network is transmitting from.

The LNB does need to be from the company providing the service. The dish is only a reflector picking up the signal from the satellite to the LNB and then to the receiver.

DISH Network

the dish can but you need to change the LNB

Dish Network and Direct TV are both the major satellite tv providers in the United States. Both of them give you almost the same package with different price range and contains different number of channels depending on how you would like to use the service.

It depends on what Dish satellite and programming you had and what DirecTV programming you want to receive. Each Dish satellite LNB (attached to the dish) picks up different orbital locations as does Directv and these can vary according to your programming package and where you live.

Our LNBs connected to the dish sends the signal from the satellite in space, which the receiver decodes so you get the picture for the channel you want to watch. A shaw receiver doesn't have the coding to decipher our signal.

The dish itself does not matter. The equipment that allows you to receive the signal from the satellite is the LNB and the receiver. The receiver, smart card in the receiver, and LNB decodes the signal from the satellites so you can view the different channels and programs.

The dish itself can be used but the LNB has to be a Dish LNB. Our receivers will not work without our LNB. Thanks.

Does Directv and Dish Network use TCP IP?

My Dish Network receiver is connected to my home LAN and the internet via TCP/IP for remote control of my DVR, on-demand movie downloads, etc. IIRC, there's a place in the Dish OnLine menu to get the receiver to request an IPv4 address from a DHCP server. If there's no IP address, then there's no remote control, online movies, etc. I'd bet that DirecTV has a similar setup.

Will a Dish Network 3700 rec work with a Dish Pro dual LNB feed?

Actually, you can use a legacy receiver with a DISH Pro dish. An adapter is needed at the receiver to get the proper signal for that receiver. No, Dish Pro is a stacked technology, which the older 3700 will not recognize.
