I always use my foundation as my eyeshadow primer! It worked amazing with me and it leaves me with less worry about the primer making my eyelids lighter or darker than my skintone. It also keeps the eyeshadow put in place It might not work with all foundations though, I use Clinique Almost Makeup foundation (the one with spf 15) it's amazing!

∙ 13y agoNo because a primer is just a sheer or lightly coloured base that you apply to the lid to get the fullest colour out of your eyeshadows. Because liner is usually quite dark, it is only supposed to be used for your lashline to enhance the look and size of your eye. If you don't have an actual eyeshadow primer, light concealers are almost the same and work just as well.

BTW, if you buy a face primer and an eye primer, you're wasting your money--face primer works well as eye primer. However! I'm still trying to figure out what priming your face does for you that applying moisturizer just before you start applying makeup, and wearing foundation on your eyelids, does not.

Why does primer go first?
I am assuming that you mean primer for your eyes. Well primer goes on first to allow eyeshadow to fully show its colour and to avoid creasing throughout the day. Without primer, the eyeshadow will be faint and the oils from your eyelids will cause it to crease or gather in one spot.
What can you use as a substitute for eyeshadow base?
A substitute for an eyeshadow base or primer is hard to find but what ive found what works well is either a regular face moisturizer/lotion or chap stick. A moisturizer/lotion works good for powder eyeshadow, while chapstick works better with cream eyeshadow or glitter. You technically can use an eyeliner or concealer, but they don't work as well as an actual base or primer. Such examples are Urban Decay Primer Potion, MAC Paint Pots, and Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Cheaper brands such as NYX and L'Oreal have some too.

well u cant really if u find some its rare rainbow eyeshadow used to be used by theatre stars on broadway in the 1980's but u can take a very thin brush of some sort and take alot of different colors of eyeshadow and do line by line of the colors, tht would work better anyway.

I've used Face Atelier's Transforming Gel - it works really well, but its fairly pricey. You can order a sample size of it for much less, and see if you think it's worth it. As well, I have read that you can simply use water, but I haven't had as much luck with that. Hope this helps!
