There are some factors that may apply. If the card holder lives in a community property state, and is married, the spouse is equally responsible for any debts. If it's a situation where the elderly person is the sole debtor, only they are responsible. And in some cases an authorized signer. The nursing home administrator, should be able to refer you to an attorney specializing in Elder Law. Most, offer free consultations.
