Hi i am with NRRF,

which stands for national rodent rescue foundation

no hamsters and guinea pigs can not live in the same cage together because

hamsters are very territorial and can be very aggressive and violent toward the guinea pig.

Not only that but their sleeping patterns are different. Hamsters are awake during the night and guinea pigs during the day.

Also their diet is very different as well. Hamsters mainly subsist on seeds and nuts and guinea pigs mostly on vegetables and timothy hay as well as pellets

also vitamin c here are some veggies that have vitamin c

Turnip Greens 260 mg

Mustard Greens 252 mg

Dandelion Greens 200 mg

Kale 192 mg

Brussels Sprouts 173 mg

Parsley 140 mg

Collard Greens 140 mg

Guavas 125 mg

Beet Greens 100 mg

Broccoli Leaf* 120 mg

Cauliflower 100 mg

Kohlrabi 100 mg

Strawberries 100 mg

Broccoli Florets 87 mg

Spinach 60 mg

Raspberries 60 mg

Rutabaga 52 mg

Orange 50 mg

Cabbage (all leaves and Chinese

cabbage also) 50 mg

So I hope you and your little hamster and guinea pig are okay and that you also did not put them together in the same cage

Well, there are many different reasons. But I know that a hamster won't eat a Guinea Pig, or the other way around. But what I do know is that they MAY kill or injure each other, as they tend to fight.

Guinea pigs eat:

  • Hay (Usually from the borttom of the cage
  • A cup of veggies per day (with lots of vitamin C). Could include:lettuce (but not iceberg), parsley, cilantro, kale, bell peppers, carrots, tomatoes, apples, melons, cabbage and spinach.
  • And of course, store bought Guinea pig food.

Hamsters eat:

  • Lettuce
  • Cucumber
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Green beans
  • Grapes
  • Baby sweet corn
  • Hamsters also eat apples, watermelon seeds (not so sure) and they may like lots of different things (I know hamsters who eat dog biscuits)
  • Also, never put citrus in a Hamsters water. Guinea Pigs are ok (not sure)

So their foods are their biggest difference.

Remember, they do tend to fight.

Can guinea pigs and hamsters bond with each other?

from the research ive done, I dont think its the smartest idea to have a Guinea Pig and a Hamster together. Some of my reasons are: 1) A Guinea Pig's cage has long bars, unlike a hamster's cage. A hamster would easily squeeze out the Guinea Pig cage's bars (i know from experience). And a hamster cage isnt quite suitable for a Guinea Pig, mostly because a Guinea Pig gets much bigger then a hamster does. 2) They have a very different diet. Guinea pigs eat plants, when Hamsters eat plant AND meat. the guinea pig would get sick if he/she accidentally ate the meat. 3) Hamsters are nocturnal, Guinea Pigs are not. the hamster would get very annoyed with the Guinea Pig, who would probably want to be up in the day time, squeaking away as the Hamster trys to sleep. and this could lead to a fight. I hope this answered your question!

guinea pigs and chipmunks should not live together.

Is it cruel to keep a guinea pig in a hamster cage?

Guinea pigs need space to move around in, and some hamster cages are pretty small. Ideally a guinea pig needs at least 0.75 sq. m. If your pet seems like it does not like its cage, get a bigger cage soon

Yes the minimum for two guinea pigs is 7.5 feet so that's a good cage.

Depends on the Guinea Pig - also on the cage. I keep my guinea pigs in an open-bottomed cage.

Can guinea pigs have the same size of a cage of a hamster?

No, that would be cruel. A CAGE at least the width and length of a 20 gallon fishtank in comparison. At LEAST. Would be better suited to a guinea pig.
