I go to apple.com/itunes, download iTunes 7.5, cant install becuase because I dont have XP (service pack 4 and up) or Vista.
So I find a download for version 7.3 available, Windows 2000 friendly, click the buttons, install it all, start it up.
The program then informs me that I must use version 7.4 with the iPod 3rd generation Nano. Go back to apple.com/itunes, to find that 7.4 also is only compatible with XP (service pack 2 and up) and Vista.
So at this point in my harrowing journey, no you cannot use iPod Nano 3rd generation with Windows 2000.
But I really wish someone would figure it out and tell me. (jogresh1@yahoo.com)

YES - found a solution and have tested it for mp3's.
1. Uninstall iTunes and Apple software update, reboot.
2. Download iPod_Support_v3_02.exe from http://mlipod.sourceforge.net/
3. Download Winamp free media player (google it)
4. Install Winamp, install the iPod support program (make a $5 donation)
5. Reboot and plug in iPod, choose correct iPod when asked, etc.
6. Let Winamp add the mp3's on your computer to it's Local Media / Audio / library.
7. In Winamp on the left column of choices go down to the bottom, "Devices" and you should see the iPod listed there.
8. Then you click the Sync button and it will sync your iPod (ie add songs to the iPod) with songs in the Local Media / Audio library. (even shows Album art on the iPod)
I have not worked with video yet. If someone does please post info ... thanks!

How can I get my ITunes songs back and reuse them if I uninstall ITunes? Do I re-install it? Will these steps ensure that when I re-install ITunes, the new 3rd Gen IPOD used on Windows 2000 with ITunes 7.3.2.6 will then be recognized? Thank you, Shellc123
