Always check when taking any new medication. Your pharmacist should be able to tell you (by their own training or by contacting the medication company) whether or not a medicine has the possibility to affect your birth control. Basic rule: if it says that it may/can affect birth control, it means all birth control (oral, patch, injected). When in doubt, double your protection by using a condom during sex, until you have completed all the prescribed medication and it is out of your system completely (also another timeframe the pharmacist can help you with).

I know of a certain medication that will affect the effectiveness of Depo-Provera. I just received samples of Provigil (generic name is modafinil) from my physician. I was reading the package insert when I noticed that it stated that Provigil interacts with types of hormonal birth control. I did some more research online and even called a pharmacy hotline and all the answers I got was that Provigil can make Depo-Provera ineffective. So now I don't know what to do, seeing that I don't think my doctor has received my message yet on whether or not I should stop Provigil. Always tell your doctor what medications you are on and read the information that comes with your medications.
