Can portuguese people understand spanish people?

It is not exactly yes or no as everyone is different but most portuguese can actually
understand Spanish.
Not that they understand every word but most get the meaning but some
people especially children have a bit of difficult understanding Spanish as
the Spanish accent is different and Spanish is usually quicker.
