No, small babies should be put to sleep on their backs it makes them much less susceptible to cot-death. Once they can turn themselves they will find their own comfortable position, just as an older person does.
Up until the 1990's it was more common to put babies face down in their cradles or cribs. Then the experts said that a baby sleeping on it's stomache has a higher risk of SIDS or sudden infant death syndrome. After that babies started to be placed on their backs more. I raised 2 babies on their tummies and 1 on her back, they all did fine. I don't know if the risk of SIDS really is increased by sleeping on the tummy or not. Babies seem to be comfortable either way usually. I personally feel that the risk is not increased. But the crib needs to be cleared of extra items, like pillows, stuffed animals, well, maybe on small one, extra blankets, etc. I think the extra items are what create a higher risk. The one thing that comes to mind is that most of us grew up sleeping tummy down and then as we grew older discovered we were more comfortable sleeping on our sides or backs. On the back causes more snoring. That line of thinking makes me actually question the safety of putting babies on their backs. Adults who snore have a greater risk of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea happens when a person actually stops breathing for seconds at a time. It is quite frightening for their partner. Well, this is what sudden infant death syndrome is. Sleep apnea. My youngest child was born 2 months premature and had aleep apnea. Her body forgot to breath. So she was placed on a monitor and when the alrm went of we would stimulate her body with massage or patting. But she did sleep on her back. I wonder if that incread her apnea. I know that we breath easier on our tummies than our backs when we have apnea.
You will hardly be able to sleep if you are on you belly. It will not be good for your or the baby...
As long as it's comfortable then it's fine to sleep on your belly during pregnancy. It is recommended to sleep on your left side.
Yes it is. Babies sleeping on their stomachs is a possible cause of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome since they may have trouble breathing. Babies should sleep on their backs.
no.. just be careful she/he won't lay his head straight to the mtatress or he can die from not being able to breathe
It is safe till 12 and probably till 20 weeks. Provided you feel comfortable and the bed is soft.

Either on your back or on your side.. if you sleep on your stomach then you can hurt your back.. I learn to put a pillow between my legs when i sleep on my side to prevent me from rolling onto my stomach.
