The answer is: It depends. It depends on how disabled you have become, due to Arthritis. You will have to have medical documentation to prove that you have become so disabled that you cannot work any longer. There is a long process of written documentation and face-to-face interview w/Social Security to go through and an even longer wait time to determine if you've been found eligible for benefits. BUT, it is worth the effort if you have a legitimate disability; and even if you are denied benefits the first time, do challenge their findings. For many people, they are automatically denied in the first round - it's a given for many many people. So immediately challenge and argue your case. In many instances, the 2nd time you can be accepted. I hope this proves helpful. Also, as you probably know, you can either call your local Social Security office or go to their website to ask/find specific questions. Good luck.

If you develop a chronic condition such as arthritis and your job exacerbates that condition can you file a workmen's comp claim for making the condition worse?

Thanks Mackey for the added info. Marcy No you can't. Workmen's Comp is about injuries at the workplace. What you can do is get a complete physical and a doctors report and file for Disability Pension. So sorry you are having so many problems. Take care Marcy * For persons in the U.S., Social Security Online has all the information necessary concerning requirements, procedures and downloadable forms for filing a Social Security Disability claim. http://www.ssa.gov

What proof must you provide for a disability claim for rheumatoid arthritis?

Information for Social Security Disability claims can be found at the SSA website. Please refer to the link on this answer page. Anyone with a debilitating condition that has enough SS credits can apply for SSD. The condition as a rule, has to be such that the person is unable to engage in gainful employment for at least one year. The filing process can be complicated and frustrating. There will be a lot of paperwork, and you will need supporting documents, from doctors, clinics, etc. Sometimes the SSA requires you to be examined by a physician of their choice. Contact your local SSA office, for instructions, much of it can be done by phone. Be advised that it will take a minimum of six months for any decision on your claim. Persons who qualify for SSD may also be eligible for SSI and Medicare benefits. But contact the SSA right away, even though approval is going to take six months. Once you receive approval, your benefits will be paid from the day you applied, so wasting time is wasting money! Are you trying to get disability benefits or obtain a disability policy? If you are trying to obtain a personal policy and your symptoms are mild or controlled with non steroidal drugs then you can obtain coverage. == == == == For information, resources and related links go The National Council On Disability (NCD) In Australia if you are unable to work as a result of a health condition and you dont have insurance or any other form of regular income you are covered by the governments disability pension as is most of the cost of drugs and hospitalization surgery (ETC)

Is scoliosis a disability?

in the case of an SSDI application, it is always determined if the applicant can return to past work. If that is deemed not possible then it is determined if the applicant can be given any form of alternative work. If that also is not possible then the applicant's case will be approved for a medical vocational allowance. Thus in most of the cases it is through this route that people claim the social security disability benefits.

Do you have to apply for Social Security Disability when you start getting Long Term Disability from your employer?

Yes, if your disability insurance policy has a benefit that is integrated with social insurance benefits. Most employer paid disability insurance policies are integrated with social security benefits, because of the lower premium they have to pay. Individual disability insurance plans can be purchased with or without social security integration. Benefits that are not integrated with social security benefits will not be affected whether you apply or not for social security disability benefits.
