Try the common sense route for depression, but if you have had bouts before, you may need to obtain prescription antidepressants. This is because they have found that sort of thing is caused by a lack of brain chemicals of one sort or another. Common sense ideas for every day: get no more than 8-9 hours sleep, eat a very balanced diet (watch the carbs), exercise at least a half hour a day, preferably with at least 15 minutes of sunshine, do something you enjoy (art, read, etc.), write in your journal and learn something new. If you are in a difficult situation, then you'll need to find a way to destress and that is helped by any exercise with deep breathing as a component. Try a beginners yoga or pilates tape to learn how to do this.
