Yes. as your blood sugar level rises, the body begins to produce insulin to bring it back to normal levels. If the body makes too much insulin, you "crash" and your blood sugar level drops too low for a time. During that time you will feel sluggish, irratable and have a massive headache. At least I do.

Caffeine, an additive and natural substance in many products - can both cause and abort headaches and migraine.

Caffeine taken daily, just like any other medication, can cause rebound headache. And in some people, caffeine by itself is a trigger.

There are many people, however, that caffeine can assist their headache. This is why they include caffeine in Excedrin and some other pain medicines. This is why they are also testing blending Rizatriptan (Maxalt) with caffeine. Caffeine acts as a stimulant to 1) help the medication reach the body quicker 2) constrict the blood vessels to allieviate pain.

It can't hurt to make sure that you aren't suffering rebound headache or withdrawal from caffeine. Make sure you take stock of chocolate (which has a small amount of caffeine in it), tea, coffee, soda, Red bull, and any type of dieting substances that have guarana listed. Also make sure you read the label on OTC medication you take, because you could be getting caffeine from them as well.

If you are using caffeine as an abortive, as with all abortives - you should keep it to 2-3 times per week.

Caffeine can help certain types of headache, but it can also cause rebound - a headache that follows the initial headache, which can be worse than the initial headache. Care should be taken when using caffeine. For best advice, seek the help of your physician or headache specialist.

If you intake caffeine on a daily basis and then quit (because caffeine is an addictive substance) deprivation can cause headaches. To much caffeine can cause hyperness/ put stress on the body. Caffine gives the body a jump start, but by doing so it deceives our body into thinking it isn't tired. This can cause a person to "crash" ie. feel extremely tired and exhausted, which in turn, can cause a headache. Hope that helped :)

Sometimes caffeine can help headaches, but it can also cause rebound headaches, so great care should be taken in its use. Additionally, using caffeine regularly can actually cause or trigger some types of headaches.

Does switching to decaffeinated coffee prevent 'withdrawal' headaches associated with giving up caffeinated coffee?

No, but by using decaf, you can slowly wean your way off caffeinated to avoid possible withdrawal headaches. If you drink 3 cups of coffee a day and stop drinking, you're going to be just as likely to encounter caffeine withdrawal as if you start drinking 3 cups of decaf. No caffeine is no caffeine. But if you slowly switch from caffeinated to decaf, by making your coffee more and more decaffeinated by mixing in more of the decaffeinated powder over time, you might be more successful since the transition will be gradual.
