I have a disk herniation and took 10mg tablets of hydrocodone(vicodin) 3 times a day while I was pregnant. I spoke to a neonatal doctor at 7 months and he simply suggested cutting back and making sure that the obgyn doctors knew how much I was taking, so they could monitor the baby for any signs of withdrawal. By 8 months I was taking 1 to 2 10mg tablets a day and continued right up to when I was in labor. My baby was born with no complications and had APGAR scores of 8 and 9. My baby is now 3 months old and is still perfectly healthy. Some of the things I was warned about, by the Neonatal doctor, were respiratory problems and withdrawal symptoms that can sometimes be fatal. He said that while he doesn't recommend taking narcotics, the dose I was taking was not enough to be truly concerned about. You can always ask your obgyn to refer you to a Neonatal specialist.
