No, I'm sorry if there is no heart beat there will be no baby. By 5 weeks there should be a detectable heart beat, by 6 weeks the heart beat can be heard with a transvaginal ultra sound scan.

If you are not certain when you conceived your doctor should order a blood hCG level with a repeat in about 3 days to determine if the hCG level is rising, a sign of a healthy pregnancy or dropping - a sign of a missed miscarriage.

The cells that have formed will either be absorbed and the lining will shed (much like a heavy period) or your doctor will perform a D & C to gently remove the tissue left in the uterus.

Well to be honest with you honey, it may be. I went a couple of weeks back to get an u/s because I was spotting and they checked and I got to hear the heartbeat it was beautiful that being said I was 6 weeks and 4 days. It all depends on the type of machine they used if it was a vaginal one it can detect heartbeat really early but with the u/s they do on the stomach they would not be able to. I mean with me the nurse told me that at my next appointment they can use the other u/s equip on my stomach. I am praying for you no matter what happens.

The heart begins beating around the 5th week.

You can hear it with Doppler ultrasound around week 9 or 10.

You may be able to hear it with a stethoscope around week 20.
