What does your policy say. We need to know what company, and which policy in order to even come close to an answer.

I'm wondering how did they just happen to have such trinkets laying around, or if they are trying to replace yours with something of lower quality. The problem here is how do you know if the one they offer is of similar value and if you would find it's setting as attractive as the one lost? There are many factors involved in grading diamonds. That's why they require an expert to appraise. It's doubtful to think they have shopped around to find a really good deal on a similar quality replacement for you. Would they give you the option of taking it for appraisal at your trusted jewelers? I would only accept such a replacement if it appraises (by my known and trusted jeweler) to be worth more than the one lost.
