Under normal pregnancy circumstances, it is commonly advised for a pregnant woman not to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk. Also, do not lift anything that is awkward to carry that is about the weight of a gallon of milk or heavier. This is especially true beginning the second trimester. As your belly grows, you already become off-centered with the extra weight in the front, and carrying awkwardly shaped or large items, no matter how much they weight, can be dangerous in that it increases your risk of becoming off balance and falling.

However, if you have a high risk pregnancy, they will not want you to lift anything at all... outside of your fork or hairbrush.

Now, if your 9 month old is at an average weight, it is okay for you to carry her, provided you are not a high risk pregnancy. You should not carry her for extended periods of time, nothing outside of moving her from spot to spot if no one is around to help you. However, do not bend at your back to try to pick her up from the floor. Bend with your knees... or better yet try to get her up onto a couch first so that it will be less stress trying to get a good hold on her.

In any case, you should still consult with your doctor in case he has any special instructions for you.
