Indeed, you can practice only for horses.

In fact, many horse owners *prefer* vets that specialize just in the needs of horses.

This does depend on where you wish to practice. Often in small towns or farming areas vets will not specialise as much and may treat all animals. In larger towns and cities however there is usually more than one vet and they tend to specialise. In this case you can cetainly be a vet for horses only.
