A step-by-step "how-to" instruction.

Yes, most definitely, a person can get addicted to prescription drugs, just like they can get addicted to alcohol, hard drugs, smoking, eating and other habits.

With prescription drugs, often the patient enjoys the way the prescription drug makes them feel and they want to continue getting that same feeling. They may get caught up in the feeling and increase the intake of the drug to a dangerous level. This practice becomes even more dangerous if the prescription drugs are taken in conjunction with alcohol, hard drugs or other substances that can more seriously harm one's health.

If you or someone you know has an addiction to prescription drugs, their health professional, community health clinic, or public hospital can probably provide helpful treatment. And, in many communities, there are support groups for people working to break their addictions.
