Can you be arrested for unpaid fines in ontario canada?

[Edit]

Yes you can be arrested for unpaid fines in Ontario. It happened to an acquaintance of mine. The car we were in was pulled over because the officers thought the car was unsafe. They asked for ID and took my friend into custody because he had $1000 in unpaid fines. He was incarcerated in the Metro West Detention Centre for two weeks before he was released. This was in 1989, mind you, but I doubt if that has changed. Maybe someone has more recent experience and can correct me on that.
