Can you be denied a nursing job for having a prescripition for medicine that shows in urine drug screen? |

I just went in for an employment drug screen this past week. I take ambien, 5mg at night to help me sleep. The ambien didn't show up in the type of drug test I took, but my supervisor who was doing the drug test told me that even if it would have shown up on the drug screen I still would have been employeed because I had a prescription for it in my name. As long as you are able to show the prescription by law they can't not hire you because of it. A while back I would take zanax for anxiety and had to do a drug test from a urine sample and the zanax did show up. What happened was they sent it away for testing and than a pharmacist from the lab contacted me and I had to give him all the prescription information that was on the bottle. He than contacted my doctor to make sure and the pharmacy were I had gotten it filled. So as long as you are able to show the physical evidence of the prescription that shows up in the drug test they can't not hire you, however, if you are unable to prove you had a precription and there standards are that you must pass the drug test with a negative result than they are able to not hire you. Hope that helps.
