Between your question and your clarification in the Discussion area, it's clear that there are differences of opinion and apparent differences of fact involved in your situation.
You may be at the point in resolution of the issue where a mediator, armed with all the facts, dates and evidence, sits down with you and your board to identify exactly what happened and when as the issue relates to dogs.
You can look for consistency in notifying owners about bringing new dogs into the community after passing a resolution -- or otherwise amending your governing documents.
If you purchased your unit after signing an agreement to abide by the governing documents -- and here, ignorance is no defense -- and you violated them by bringing in a dog, you are subject to the remedy that the association has in place for violations.
In reality, a regular and reoccurring fine may be a smarter penalty than forcing you to sell your unit. Read your governing documents to determine when the board can legally sell your unit. Generally, that is the most extreme step that an association takes.
