In most cases yes.
There is the wiring to consider, so if you can buy a write off automatic car of the same year, that's the cheapest option.
That way you will have all the parts you need, gearbox, driveshafts and any electrical parts.
It's a lot easier to convert to an automatic, than from an automatic.
