The question is how many times did you call out? If this was a single occurence then the department of unemployment will likely see the termination as unreasonable and grant you unemployment. If however it was several occasions and a violation of the company's attendance policy it may be a little more difficult to collect but you would need to file the claim and see what happens.

You are eligible for unemployment insurance benefits if you meet these requirements:

You lost your job through no fault of your own. This could happen if:

  • you were laid off because of lack of work
  • your hours were cut back because of lack of work
  • you were fired without good cause
  • you quit your job with good cause, for example, unhealthy or dangerous working conditions
  • you had to leave your job because of domestic violence
  • you were forced to quit your job because of a very important personal reason
You are not eligible for benefits if:
  • You quit your job without good cause, for example, if you quit because you did not get along with your co-workers or you didn't like your job.

  • You were fired from your job with good cause, for example, if you were fired because you did something wrong on purpose.

  • You lost your job because you were convicted of a felony or misdemeanor.

  • You are not looking for a new job.

  • You did not earn at least $3000 during your base period.

Get unemployment if fired for not working overtime?

Most states will not pay unemployment for being fired, unless you were fired for what they feel was a wrong reason. In your case, it would seem - if you can prove that's why they fired you - that you'd have a good claim.
