I am by no means an expert, but I was just researching this genetic disease and found that there are cases of affected individuals living past the expected less-than-one-week lifespan. The oldest affected person is Nusrit Shaheen, born in the late 1980s (1986, maybe?). It is not curable, and it is extremely difficult to keep under control, but it has been done.
I hope this helps, and again, I'm merely a student who has been reading up on this- so if anyone want to improve upon my answers, please don't hesitate!
Yes, you certainly can. And unfortunately mortality rates are extremely high for this genetic disease. Some of the most common causes of death are dehydration and infection (the skin is cracked and is not a good barrier against bacteria.)
Keep in mind that this disease is genetic, and only those with two sets of the mutated gene(s) in question are "affected." Those with just one are considered carriers, but do not display the symptoms and are not at risk of dying from the disease.
Incredibly rare, there have been about 100 reported cases in the history of the disease.

a hereditary skin disease in which the epidermis continuously flakes off in large scales or plates.("Dictionary.com")
Derived from two Greek words meaning "fish" and "disease," ichthyosis is a congenital (meaning present at birth) dermatological (skin) disease that is represented by thick, scaly skin.
Most infants die within a short time due to skin infections. The modern science has found ways to grow the harlequin child's regullary, so some are in the adult age. There is no cure for the disease, but the effects will start getting weaker in old age.
Hello, I see you are asking "What are the causes for doc 6 (harlequin type)?" Harlequin ichthyosis is caused by changes (mutations) in the ABCA12 gene, which gives instructions for making a protein that is necessary for skin cells to develop normally. It plays a key role in the transport of fats (lipids) to the most superficial layer of the skin (epidermis), creating an effective skin barrier.
