Eating green tea can actually be healthier for you than just drinking the liquid brew. Why? 2 reasons:
1. There are some components of green tea that are not water soluble. Instead they are fat soluble. This means that no matter how long you brew the tea, these components will not be absorbed by the water. You actually have to eat the leaves, preferably with some small amount of fat so that your body will get the benefits of these materials.
2. For those healthy parts of the tea that are water soluble, you can't be assured of getting all those components out of the tea by brewing them. You are likely to throw away some of the goodness when you throw away the leaves/ teabag.
Eating or drinking green tea are both very healthy and to be encouraged. But eating the whole leaf allows you to experience more of the health benefits.
The more the merrier. The antioxidants in green tea cannot be overdosed, and if you drink too much for your body to absorb; you will simply pee it out. The only problem with green tea is that it has a small amount of caffeine, although it is not enough to hurt you in regular amounts (1-5 cups a day).
Tea is rich in antioxidants, and a steeped cup has less caffeine than a brewed cup of coffee. Apart from caffeine addiction, there aren't any real negative effects from tea drinking. In fact, the practice of regular tea consumption is what kept the British Empire functioning for so long. Tea slows your digestion, which makes you capable of going longer with smaller meals. This is how English factory workers could go for so long with just a small 'tea time' during their shift.

However there are some practices employed by large farms that do have negative consequences. This is especially a problem when chemicals are over applied or not applied according to instructions.
