Bacon is a protein and may be safe for an hour or so at room temp, but after that it should be kept at either less than 40°F or higher than 140°F.

If it is crisp-cooked, it will be safer longer than that. See Related Links.

It depends how long it was left out and how warm it is. If it was cool and the bacon was only left out overnight AND IT SMELLS OK. Then it should be fine if you cook it till it goes crispy because bacon is cured (preserved) by the salt in it.

However if it smells bad or was left out for a long time or in warm condition then it would be safer to throw it away.

Does crisp bacon have less fat than tender bacon--when both are cooked?

A crisper piece of bacon will have less fat. The crispier the bacon, the more fat has been cooked off. That is why crispier bacon has a more dry texture to it. You should still eat bacon in moderation, no matter the method of preparing due to its high saturated fat content.
