Yes, an employee can and often will be terminated while on a Long-Term disability claim if there is indication he/she will not be returning to work. There is nothing stating or requiring an employer to keep an employee who is unable to perform the tasks required by their job description on staff.
Clearly the Long-Term disability benefits will continue regardless. However, other benefits could be lost once terminated. Check with you insurance provider for specifics on this.

If you were let go because of a lack of work, reduction in force, or because your leave was exhausted and no further time off could be granted. Next, the unemployment office will look at your ability to seek and accept immediate full time work. If you are not able to work due to a disability, then you will be denied. However, if you were disabled and are NOW able to work, then you will need a medical certification (furnished by the unemployment office) and completed by your medical doctor, then you could then be eligible. The first step is to apply for benefits.
