Yes. Liposuction (sometimes called suction lipectomy) can be performed in the ankle and lower calf areas. A small, well-planned reduction in volume in the ankle area can result in a more attractive leg.

Once considered a risky area in which to perform liposuction, more doctors are treating these areas of the body. As the fat layer in this area is quite superficial (close to the skin), smaller "microcannulas" are often used in contrast to the larger cannulas used in other parts of the body like the abdomem, flanks, or outer thigh.

Before performing the procedure, the surgeon will determine whether the fullness of the ankle is due to fatty deposits or other natural structures and whether the amount of adipose tissue (fat) that can be removed will give the desired result.
