Can you get pregnant from preseminal fluid? In: Masturbation
[Edit categories]
|
Answer
Yes.
According to a Russian Web site called Erotica, precum is a "natural lubricant which oozes from the penis during and after sexual excitement. This is also called PRE-SEMINAL FLUID. It has about one thousand sperm swimming in it. Most men do not know this happens because they cannot feel it coming out. PRE-SEMINAL FLUID could get a woman pregnant. It may also contain sexually transmitted diseases if he is infected."

Researchers find no sperm in pre-ejaculate fluid.

PIP: A study in Boston, Massachusetts, and another study in New York City examined samples of pre ejaculate fluid from HIV seropositive and HIV seronegative men to determine whether HIV was or was not present in pre ejaculate fluid. The researchers found macrophages and CD4 lymphocytes in most samples, indicating that HIV was present. The more significant finding, however, was that most pre ejaculate samples did not contain any sperm and those that did had only small clumps of a very small amount of sperm which seemed to be immobile. A larger study is needed to verify these results. If these results are confirmed, they may dispel the myth that pre ejaculate fluid contains sperm. An ongoing WHO/USAID study shows that the pregnancy rate caused by men with 3 million sperm/ml/ejaculation is very low; fertility clinics consider men with a sperm count of no more than 5 million/ml to be infertile, particularly if is there is low motility. The average ejaculation has about 100 million sperm/ml, but about 10 million sperm pass through the cervical mucus, about 1 million make it to the top of the uterine tract, and just about 100,000 sperm reach the fallopian tubes. Thus, only a couple of sperm, assuming motility, would reach the fallopian tubes in the case of the pre ejaculate samples with some sperm, which tended to be immobile (sperm levels only in the 1000s). Thus, the probability of pregnancy is very love if pre-ejaculate fluid enters the vagina. Pre-ejaculate fluid of 6 of the 9 HIV seropositive donors in Boston and 6 of the 14 HIV seropositive donors in New York contained HIV, regardless of symptom status or antiretroviral therapy status. Thus, the risk of HIV transmission may be higher than unplanned pregnancy, so people should use condoms before the penis enters the vagina, mouth, or anus.

Journal of Assisted Reproduction Genetics, 2003 Apr;20(4):157-9. Zukerman asked "Does preejaculatory penile secretion originating from Cowper's gland contain sperm?" - conclusion: "Preejaculatory fluid secreted at the tip of the urethra from Cowper's gland during sexual stimulation did not contain sperm and therefore cannot be responsible for pregnancies during coitus interruptus."
Here's another two studies that were studying the HIV viral load in pre-ejaculate and incidentally showed that there isn't sperm:

Thank you soooo much for the information on pre cum it made me feel at much more ease about the precautions that me and my boyfriend DID take cause I was worried about a little pre cum getting me pregnant I knew all the fact I just needed a professional who has really researched it to back me up. Now I can sleep at night without worring so much.
Thanks again!
Answer
i agree, that is a very useful answer - it is one of the first places i have found that gives scientific proof that there is no sperm in precum - i mean lets face it, it makes sense really!!! thanks again
Answer
It does make sense. If there was sperm (or a significant amount present) in precum then there'd be a lot more pregnant women out there. My husband and I have been using the withdrawal method for almost a year now & I haven't gotten pregnant. I've also used the withdrawal method in my previous committed relationship & never got pregnant then either. I know I'm very fertile because I'm an egg donor at a clinic & they tested my fertility...and I have a 6 yr old.
But, if you're not wanting to get pregnant then always use birth control as a precaution. My husband & I are not trying to get pregnant but we wouldn't mind if it happened.

It is good to have scientific research to back up what I thought! It does make sense. I think 'pulling out' has got such bad press due to high teen pregnancy rates. Inexperienced guys may find it hard to pull out before ejacualation. I bet the failure rate for experienced and committed couples is really low. Public health bodies won't admit to this due to fear of promoting 'pulling out' for teens. I have used it successfully and I am also very fertile.
UMMM YOU ARE MARRIED AND DON'T KNOW THE TRUE CONSEQUENCES OF PRE-CUM... IT CAN GET YOU PREGNANT BECAUSE IT IS JUST LIKE SEMEN BUT THAT JUST COMES BEFORE THE REGULAR ONE. ALSO, IF IT GOES IN THE PERSON, IT CAN CAUSE DISEASE TOO.

Firstly I would like to point out that precum does NOT contain sperm in itself. There have been test after test carried out to prove this statement true. The only way precum can possibly contain sperm is from a previous ejaculation. Sometimes not every single sperm comes out when you ejaculate and instead gets caught up and lodged in the urethra. However the urethra is easily cleaned with one urination that will either kill or flush out any sperm that could be lingering around in it. Therefore unprotected sex is around 97% pregnancy safe if the man does not ejaculate before or during intercourse. Sometimes men do not know when they are about to ejaculate and release their fluids so it is advisable to not get anywhere near an orgasm and to just pull out after a while and finish eachother off by hands. The correct pull out method only works to its full capability if the man urinates after his last ejaculation and during intercourse pulls out as soon as he feels the early tingles of an orgasm and before he releases any fluids. Of course this is hard as you can get caught up in the moment and just want to finish off inside your partner but if you don't want to risk a pregnancy simply don't do it! My next point is to ease the tension teenagers may be feeling after having unprotected sex a few days after the girl/woman finished her period. There have been things said on many teen websites about it being still possible to get pregnant because sperm can live up to 5 days. Yes sperm can live up to 5 days but a woman does not ovulate until around the 14th day of her menstrual cycle if she is maintaining a regular cycle which most girls at the age of 16 are doing. Please note teen websites are set up to mainly scare teenagers and I'm not saying this is a bad thing but I am saying don't believe what you hear all the time. If you were trying to get pregnant and seeing a docter on a regular basis she or he would be telling you that you are very unlikely to get pregnant during the 5 days after your period. Because your a teenager people are telling you it is possible. Please don't take my words as a reason to have sex with nothing but this posting protecting you, get on the pill if you want to have sex unprotected and sleep at night. In the mean time don't worry!
Answer
Regarding the post above me saying you can't get pregnant on your period is totally false. I got pregnant 3 days into my period. I told my boyfriend it was ok to ejaculate inside me because I thought you couldn't get pregnant on your period either. I had a nice surprise the following month. My doctor told me that it is absolutely a myth that you can't get pregnant on your period. She said there are some months in which a woman will ovulate twice in one month and she won't even know it. Also, not every women ovulates on the 14th day of her cycle just like not every woman has a 28 day cycle.
The above rings true. It is completely possible, however it is less likely because of a higher current for your partner's sperm to push against; everything is flowing out and they are trying to get in, like fish up a stream. Still, no girl should EVER have unprotected sex on her period because it is possible to be impregnated and there is a higher risk of contracting infection.
Answer
Hello.
Yes you can definitely become pregnant from preseminal fluid. Preseminal fluid is more commonly known as precum or preejaculatory fluid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LOL I love alot of these answers people saying no you can't where in their statments are things like: 97% of the time, most men, sometimes. I couldn't help but laugh. That means there is a 3% chance, that some men, and that sometimes the Preseminal Fluid DID contain sperm. Therefore the answer to this question is obviously; Yes, you can get pregnant from preseminal fluid.
Answer
Well, I've read all of the above answers. First, I want to state that the above "study" only tested about 30 men total. Not at all a reliable conclusion. Second, I want to state the the "withdrawal method" is not a reliable method of birth control. Instead of stating scientific "facts", let's look at real life scenarios....there CAN be sperm in pre-ejaculate. A woman CAN get pregnant from the withdrawal method. 3 of my 5 lovely children were conceived this way. There is a 1 in 4 chance of getting pregnant from this method. It is NOT a reliable form of birth control. It is best used for couples who don't mind getting pregnant, although they are not actively trying. If you don't believe my "statistics", look it up. Planned parenthood is a good resource for birth control failure rates, although I do not condone some of the things they stand for.
ok can sum1 plz help me, I hav been hearin all different things, sum1 ppl say yes u can get pregnant from pre-cum others say u cn't, I'm so confused 2 wat is the truth, and I was worried bcoz my bf fingered me while I was rubbin him, and he pre-cummed, but we had 2 stop wat we was doin bcoz sum1 came into the house, so he put his penis bak in his pants, but after that the person left he started fingerin me again, and the problem is I am worried if he had pre-cum on his hand and if I could get pregnant from this, howeva I am on birth-control but I hav been takin the tablets at different times which means it is not as accurate and I think I was on the last day of my period, sum1 plz help!
you can, studies never prove EVERYTHING, my friend got pregnant from precum, it wasn't even from penetration.... shes still a virgin technically, they were rubbing up against each other, and it made me paranoid cuz i dont have any birth control, the study said in the few ppl that found small traces of sperm said they were immoble, thats cuz it was a study and sperm die easilly in temerature change, but if it were to get on a womans vulva, or in her vagina its at a temperature where they can live, and its that 1 in a thousand chance of pregnancy, especially during certain parts of your menstral cycle.... i could tell i ovulated this morning, my bf was just in and out quick, just once, a slip, last night.....no bc, and im paranoid.... but its one in a thousand... time to pray that im one of those 999....
I'm really kind of scared right now. My boyfriend and I had sex last week and I was ovulating the day before. He never came that day but he had pre-cum. We always use a condom and we've never had any problems with them. After he took of the condom, I was sitting on his lap for a brief moment and I remember his penis rubbing against me. He never got inside me, though. I started flipping out when I remembered, but he told me that he had definitely urinated after his last ejaculation which I was told would kill or expell the sperm from the urethra because it was acidic. I was feeling okay...until I read that post above me. Please, tell me. Does your friend know if her boyfriend had leftover sperm in his urethra?
