Can you get pregnant while on Depo-Provera? |
Pregant While On Depo-Provera
Yes, the only protection that's 100% guaranteed is not having sex. It is possible to get pregnant with any other form of birth control. If you think you are pregnant, go see a doctor or take a home test. Do not get your next shot until you are sure you're not pregnant.
Here is advice and input:
- There is a slim to none chance of you getting pregnant while on depo if you are getting your shots on time. I took depo for years, it is one of the stongest methods of birth control on the market. My doctor told me that most women can't even get pregnant until they have quit taking the depo for 1 year after there last shot. So basically you are on a powerful birth control and shouldn't worry if you are taking it correctly.
- Mostly likely you can't but you may gain weight from the shot. I know a lot of people who take the shot and gain weight from it.
- Yes you can! I was on the Depo for almost 2 years until I went to get my annual Pap smear done and the doctor told me that something didn't seem right and that she wanted me to take a pregnancy test, it came back positive. I am 9 weeks along and just found out 3 days ago...so yes you can get pregnant.
Answer
As with all birth controls there is a small chance, but Depo is something like 99.8% effective..
It's not 99.8% effective. four of my friends got pregnant while on the shot.
***My daughter got pregnant 8 weeks after she got her shot! Since then we have heard of several people who got pregnant while on this shot. It is not a case of just not getting the next one on time, either. My daughter chose this method against my wishes and didn't realize all the horrible side effects it could cause (and DID!) or how long it would control her life after she decided to stop taking it. So now, she is 6 1/2 weeks pregnant and worried to death about possible harm to her baby due to the shot!
