Are you asking about SSDI? The answer is most likely not. It is very hard to qualify for SSDI to begin with and where you will be going back to work in a short period of time after your recovery it is very unlikely.
That would depend if you live in a state that provides disability insurance. The type of disability insurance would also depend on the seriousness of the surgery, i.e. is it short-term, work injury related (workers comp); longer term, permanent (SSDI); private insurance (depends on the insurance policy). I recently talked to my DAV Rep and he did tell me that if for any reason your disability gets worse to the point that you can not work, or you have surgery to let him know and you can apply to be put on Temporary 100% disability.
