One way or the other, you have left the job. If you quit, then you pick the time and date. But, you are not eligible for unemployment or other training. If they fire you, the time is not of your choosing but you may (depending) be eligible for unemployment. Most people have been fired at one time or another, sad to say. At subsequent interviews, try to stay positive about the company and be clear about what you gained in experience at that job. If the firing is your fault--attendance or performance issues, sort that out so that you don't repeat unacceptable behaviors.

Employment laws vary from state to state, as do the source of the funding for unemployment benefits. You should contact your local employment commission office or your equivalent thereof.

In Virginia if the employer can demonstrate that the employee was terminated because of he or she was misbehaving then the employee cannot collect unemployment benefits.
Each state has its own rules. Generally, if you were fired for good cause, you will not receive unemployment or it may have a longer waiting period than if you were laid off.

Most states have an appeals process. If you are denied unemployment, you should begin the appeals process. Most employers (few people seem to know this) do not follow up if the former employee appeals the denial of benefits. After going through the appeals process successfully, you get your benefits that you worked for and paid for.
This depends on the state. In most states you can. It is always better to be fired for this reason, rather than be prideful and quit first.

It depends on your state - some states are "employment at will" states. Check with a local attorney and/or provide more specific information.

In the "hire at will" states the employer does not need to give reason to fire you,in other states they must give you a reason However they can always claim poor job performance,bad attitude,insabordination ect to just fire you because they want to get rid of you..

I would prefer quitting or resigning. If you do either of those two, you won't take the humiliation of getting fired.

Another answer:If you expect to be fired for misconduct or other reasons that are your fault, it's definitely better to quit or resign, as the above answer suggests. However, if you quit for non-work related reasons, you may not be eligible for unemployment compensation. If you are fired for no fault of your own, most of the time you are entitled to unemployment benefits.
