If your "part time employment" is a result of reduced hours at a formerly full time job, most states allow the change in terms of your employment to be justification for receiving partial unemployment benefits. If you have been working part time all along, then most states would not consider you eligible.

What is on Form 940?

Form 940 is Employer's Annual Federal Unemployment (FUTA) Tax Return. It's a two-page form for reporting the employer's federal unemployment tax liability on the first $7,000 paid to each employee during the calendar year. Part 1 asks if the employer also has paid state unemployment tax, in addition to FUTA. Part 2 determines the employer's FUTA tax on the total taxable FUTA wages (up to $7,000 per employee) at .8 percent (.008). Part 3 determines if the employer can receive a credit on the FUTA tax rate for having paid state unemployment tax. Part 4 determines if the employer has a balance due or an overpayment on the FUTA already paid for the year.

If employer wants you to go to PT or take extended unpaid leave and you refuse does this nullify eligibility for unemployment benefits?

In this state, if you work part time, you do not get unemployment. If your employer wants you to take extended unpaid leave and you take it, you can get unemployment. You took leave because your boss asked you to. That choice is like, resign or I will fire you. If your boss will not hire you back immediately, this state gives you unemployment under those circumstances. If you refuse to take either option and you are fired, you can get unemployment. It is obvious that your boss is giving you the choice of take part time work or quit only is not putting it to you in quite those terms.

Who determines unemployment benefits if you quit your job?

The state unemployment office determines it based on why you quit. Did you have good cause? Good cause is determined by the state and its unemployment office and is documented in their cases that were previously resolved. What was the reason that you quit is the primary question. Was is due to your ignorance, lack of following the rules of that company. Or was it deception on the part of the employer. id the employer lie about the hours or wages. Are they cheating you on your wages or are you the real problem that caused yourself to quit

What does part time employment mean?

Full time employment is 40+ hours a week. less than 40 hours is considered part time. Usually it is 30 hours or less. Arbitrary divisions line "less than 40" or "less than 32" or "36" are MEANINGLESS. Part-time is a number of hours that denies you X at your current employer. X might be vacation (unregulated gift from employer) or medical benefits (gift from employer) or the right to bid on FT jobs (a right GRANTED by employer).

In Ohio can you stil collect unemployment when hours are cut to 3 hours per day?

Yes. With part-time employment, collecting unemployment depends on the amount of gross you make. As long as your weekly gross is not more than your weekly unemployment benefit, you will still receive your weekly unemployment, minus your gross reported.

Can you get unemployment if your job cut hours to part time in the USA?

If you were part time and you cut back your own hours and it wasn't your boss that cut back your hours, then no you cant collect unemployment pay. But if your boss cut your hours back and you signed a contract saying you are contracted to work 40 hrs a week and your boss hasn't gave a reasonable justification and no one else's hours were cut back I would speak to your local job centre and enquire about the situation you are in at the moment. I would hazard a guess and say yes you could probably take your work to court for breaking contractual agreement. Your boss has to give a reason to why they have cut your hours to part time, like there isn't enough sustainable work for everyone, or its a temporary measure for 6 months then you will go back up to full time

How many hours is considered part time employment in New York state?

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) does not define full-time employment or part-time employment. This is a matter generally to be determined by the employer. Whether an employee is considered full-time or part-time does not change the application of the FLSA, nor does it affect application of the Service Contract Act or Davis-Bacon and Related Acts wage and fringe benefit requirements Colby Bidwell

If you quit a part time job so you can collect unemployment due to the loss of your primary income and your part time employer does not inform you that you will lose your unemployment benefits?

The unemployment benefits in all states are intended as insurance for the "non-voluntary" loss of employment, i.e., layoff or RIFs [Reductions in Force]That means, with a very few exceptions for extraordinary circumstances, that if a person VOLUNTARILY QUITS a job, then that individual IS NOT ELIGIBLE for unemployment benefits. The employer paid, payroll based, "premium" money "paid" to the states is only barely enough to cover the operation of the unemployment system offices and staff, and IS NOT the same money benefit recipients receive. The money in a weekly unemployment check is paid by the last employer who terminated the recipientAlso, in Texas [I am unaware of other states], self-employed individuals are not eligible for unemployment benefits. Ostensibly, the reason for this is that if the self-employed individual is "out of business," then how could he pay his own unemployment benefits!Because of the last employer having to pay the weekly unemployment benefit checks, when a terminated individual files for benefits, the claim is forwarded to the employer who is allowed to challenge the claimant's eligibility to receive payment of the benefit. If the employer claims, and can prove, that the employee voluntarily quit, OR was FIRED FOR CAUSE, then the employer can "kill" the claim, preventing the need to have to pay the benefits, and thus preventing the ex-employee from receiving any payment.

Can you collect unemployment if you are part time in Wisconsin?

Answer:Sometimes with a family, people are forced into part time work and are unable to make ends meet. Most states allow you to collect unemployment if working part time, under certain circumstances. Some may have you collect on a former employer if you are still in the benefit year and you had claimed unemployment before your present job. Much depends on the state you work in and their criteria. Contact your state unemployment office for clarification.

Am i eligible for unemployment if i was fired as part of lawsuit settlement?

Not enough information is given to answer the question properly. You MAY be eligible but you would have to check with your local State Unemployment Office. Under the circumstances, don't be too surprised if your former employer challenges your filing for them.

Can you collect unemployment on all days of the week?

Unemployment benefits are ste by the state in which you live in. Generally, for a person to collect unemployment benefits, first, the company has to pay into the unemployment fund of that particular state, then he / she would have to be laid off by a company downsizing or unfairly dismissed by their supervisor, boss, what have you. If the employee was in any responsible for his / her dismissal, i.e., theft, absentism, unsatisfactory job performance, etc, you are not getting it. A 2 day a week job, presumably 16 hours a week is a part time job and carries few benefits, i.e., vacation time, medical, sick time, etc. It would be rare indeed for an employer to offer unemployment benefits to a part time worker. Of course, it may be you work for "a horse of a different color."
