Can you get your car back after repossession?

Answer

yes u can def get ur car back! all of the answers above r all correct! i recently had my car repo'd a few days ago. it is deff one of the worst experiences i have ever gone through! the repo man knocked on my door at about 2am, and said he was taking my car, and i could hand over the keys if i wanted or b charged an extra 300$ for them to have to make a dub to get in the car. so if this happends to you , u should deff hand over the keys, 2 avoid any extra fees, cause believe me and these other people on here, there will b alot of them!! it is def up 2 ur lender, what agreement they will come up with to let u have ur car back.. make sure u do ur research on ur states laws though, and what ever else u can find out about repo. my lender is toyota finacial. they were trying 2 tell me in the state of PA. u do not have the right 2 get ur car back, which was a load of crap!! and like every one else said u do need 2 act qiuck and its best if u have cash in hand!! toyota made me give them proof of insurance, and my proof of pay b4 they would work anything out with me. proof of payment was hard 4 me because i get paid in cash.. in this case u will have to get a note from ur employer on a company letter head stating how much u make every week. so make sure u have these documents ready 2 send 2 ur lender! after i provided them with the information, and got approved, and u send ur payment, they told me it would take 24-48hrs b4 an approval will b sent out 4 the car 2 b released. i had to get to work, so i pretty much bothered them every half hr, which they werent happy about, but i didnt car i wanted my car back!! they finaly sent the fax to have my car released.. i was finaly able 2 get my car back after bout a half of day of waiting. went to get my car which was pretty much being held in some farmers back yard, an hr away from where i live, which i wasnt to happy about! at the end of all this i had to bring my account current, bout $1500 plus $355 repo plus $25 storage fee, and bout $200 western union fee, and $800 to reinstate my insurance, plus all the heart ache and lack of sleep! at the end of the day this deff wasnt worth it.. like the other people on here said.. dont F$$k around!! pay ur bill on time, cause ur lender deff wants their $$$ and will come take ur car and possibly ur property! look at it this way, if some one owed u money u would want it right!? and if u are behind in payments dont avoid their calls! they will work something out with u. if u avoid them, this is what happends!! just would like to thank the people that posted on this site, cause they deff helped me with info b4 i was able 2 get any answers in the morning from my lender. hope i was able to contribute as well!

Thought I'd give you a more detailed answer as I am currently going through this...

Two days after my car was repossessed, I got a notice in the mail that stated what my options are and how I can get the car back. Either pay off the entire remaining balance of the loan, or reinstate my loan contract by making the payments I'm behind on, plus a repossession fee of $350.00. I had exactly 20 days to do this before my car gets auctioned off. I'll reiterate what others have stated, you have to ACT FAST! If you do plan to get your car back, be prepared for one hectic mission, especially if you are strapped for cash. After catching up on the payments, and paying the repossession fee, I had to get the car insured with full coverage (liability and comprehensive/collision). After you provide the proof of insurance, the lender will take about a full business day to fax the release certificate to the repo agency. Keep in mind that storage fees rack up for each day that your car is held at the agency, including the day you pick up the car. The agency that took mine charges $50.00 for the first day, and $25.00 per day after that. PLUS, if you live in a state where you are required to get a police release to take your car out, you need proof that you are caught up on payments to take to your local police station, plus a fee for the release itself. In my area (Los Angeles, CA), it's $15.00. After the repo agency receives the release from your lender, take the police release, and enough cash to pay the other fees that the agency will charge you at pickup. Check the car thoroughly before you sign anything, to make sure your stuff is in there and check for any damages. Pay the fees, sign, and your set. It's a real hectic process but if the amount that you're behind on is manageable, it's well worth it.

You can definitely get your car back, but you have to act very fast, usually within 7-10 days. In most situations, you will be forced to pay off the entire loan, with several hundred dollars of additional fees tacked on. And unfortunately, sometimes when you get the vehicle back it isn't as well equipped as when it left you. I found out the hard way. Make sure you go over everything (paint, dents, stereo equipment, tires) before you sign any paperwork for the repo agent.

Answer

Yes, it is possible!

It's up to the institution that lent you the money. You could bring the account current and pay the repop charge and they could give you back the car, or they could tell you "we have tried working with you, sir, and you have done nothing but lie to us, so you must pay the BIF of your account, and then we will give you the car, but not 'til then!"

It's all in how you handle the situation with them. If you rubbed them the wrong way, they may not be so willing to work anything out with you.

You should always attempt to be honest and forthcoming with your creditors. It is the only way to work out something that will last and be in your best interest.

Nobody likes the bill collectors calling them!

Answer

My car was repossed because it was towed. 20 days later when I went to pick up the vehicle it was taken by the car manufacture. I am 49 days late can do I have to pay the amount due at the sherriffs office and the monthly payment?

Answer

YES - don't listen to all the other crap or what the finance company tells you. Call a bankrptcy attorney, take him the 194.00 filing fee and he can get your car back in a day or 2. I did it. Finance companies wont tell you this and they'll lie to you about everything else.
