Nevada has the highest proportion of public land of any of the lower 48 states, including lands administered by the US Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, and National Park Service. Texas has one of the least proportions of public lands, but many large private ranches allow visitors on a pay basis for recreational use of the wide open spaces. Texas has the vast Big Bend National Park, which features migratory birds, the Rio Grande, and extensive landscape for hiking and backpacking either on or off trails with relatively low levels of visitor use - just like most of Nevada.
Nevada and Texas are among the last states to find extensive cattle grazing on large areas of open range, fostering some of the last and strongest remnants of the traditional cowboy cultures of the West.
The climate of both Nevada and Texas is relatively warm and mild with generally low precipitation, making these states favorable for visits in fall, winter, and spring. Popular activities include boating, fishing, and nature study.
Nevada has excellent ski resorts in the Sierra Nevada.

Entertainment in Las Vegas, Reno, Tahoe and other parts of Nevada is world-class. Texas also has many excellent venues for popular entertainment in the Austin area and elsewhere.
