Can you have a natural birth after having two c-sections?In: Labor and Birth |
[Edit] |
Answer
I also had a C-section. It was an emergency C-section because of severe bleeding. I have been doing some reading. Doctors in general like to stick with C-sections in order to ensure every ones safety but a natural birth can be done. I believe it is called a VAG Back.
Answer
i think doctors usually like to stick w/ a c-section because of scar tissue.
Answer
You certainly can have a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). I suggest you do a search for your local ICAN (Internation Ceserean Awarness Network) and read, read, read. "Silent Knife" is a book you may be interested in. VBACs have been determined to be MORE safe then a repeated scheduled ceserean for many reasons. Educate yourself and hire a doula if you can. The most important contributing factor to having a successful VBAC is choosing your careprovider. It's much safer for their insurance companies to do a repeat c-section but safer for you and your baby to birth vaginally. Obstetrical politics play a huge part in VBACs. Ask your dr. what his vbac success rate is.
Answer
I have had five babies. My first and third were c-sections. It was difficult after having the second c-section to find a Dr. who would be willing to allow me to try and birth vaginally again. I found a practice where the Dr.'s had a meeting and they decided since there wasn't much for research concerning a VBAC after 2 c-sections that they would let me try. We were successful with number four in having a vaginal birth and he was my largest.
My fifth child was my smallest and she ended up being a quickie that was birthed in the van on the way to the hospital.
We are now expecting number six with a couple of weeks left to go. We have moved from the area where the Dr.'s were located that would allow me to do vaginal births. Once again the Dr.'s at the new place we are at are going to have to have a meeting to decide wether they feel comfortable allowing me to do a vaginal birth. I think because I have had two successful vaginal births after a second c-section that the odds are in my favor. If they decide against it, my husband and I agreed that we'd just sit in the parking lot and have the baby and go into the hospital afterwards, since I've already done that once.
I have discovered why I've had to have c-sections and perhaps this may be a help to other women. My babies try to come out forehead first, which is impossible, because they cannot decend down the birth canal like that it makes it difficult for them to press on the cervix and help it to open up. In order for me to correct this problem I spend a lot of time sitting, standing, or on all fours throughout labor, this seems to help the baby decend through the canal. Once it's time for pushing I get on my knees and raise the head of the bed all the way up and lean over the head of the bed, or just use it to hold onto during pushing. I try to squat during pushing as this seems to help a little. Once I've done a little pushing in that position I can lay down on my back, which is usually the way the Dr. likes you to be, and within minutes my baby is born. Of course trying to tell the Dr. that I know I can be successful doing it this way is another story.
Hope this has been helpful to many of you out there hoping to have a VBAC. Now that I've had vaginal and c-section I'd take vaginal any day, and do my best to find a way to do it like that, even if it means having the baby in the car.
Answer
They don't like to let you try natural after 2 caesars. It depends on your health, the hospital and doctor and how the baby is. Some times you might just be lucky enough to have a natural after 2 though.
Answer
Yes you can!
I know a lady who had 3 c-sections then went on to deliver 3 more babies vaginally.
You will have to look really hard for a doctor who will support you but go for it!!! The above posters have given you a lot of helpful informations.
