Yes you can easily increase RAM of your laptop. First you need to find compatible memory type for your laptop. It will depend on the laptop configuration (like chipset). Most laptops made in last 3-4 years have DDR2 SODIMM memory type. You can also use some of the free utilities like cpuz from cpuid.com to find exact chipset, type of memory installed including size, speed etc. installed in your computer currently in each slot. Before you buy the memory you can once open the memory area cover from base side of the laptop to have a look at the memory slots. This will give you confidence that once you have new modules with you will be able to open up the unit and install the modules.

Within reason you can, it largely depends on the age of the laptop, and what Operating system you are running.

As a good rule of thumb, any laptop less than 5 years old it should be no problem. Older than this, and you may have difficulty sourcing memory for it.

Also remember if its windows, unless you're running a 64bit version, 3Gb is your limit (this has to do with the way windows deals with memory).

Memory is really cheap at the moment, and doing this job is fairly straight forward. So its worth thinking could you do this yourself? If you decide you're willing to tackle the job yourself, then as a top tip, make sure when you insert the new memory in to its holder, that it sits straight and true in the holder. 95% of problems with memory upgrades are that it just hasn't been fitted in its socket properly. While your system will not boot up, it won't be life threatening. Just remove it, and fit it again!

Yes, there is a cover on the bottom of the laptop that can be removed usually by taking out 2 screws. That's the easy part. There are many different speeds and sizes of RAM and it is important to find out exactly what your particular laptop will use and how much RAM can be installed into the available expansion slot(s). The best place to look for this info is at the manufacturers website. Once you know what kind of RAM to purchase, installing is just a matter of "popping" the RAM module into place in the vacant spot.

Yes you can. Some laptops allow you to do this pretty easily while others do not, but the RAM can be upgraded by purchasing the RAM sticks

How To Add More Laptop Memory?

The average laptop relies on a lot of things in order to perform at its max. Laptop memory is no exception. If you’ve noticed that your laptop is running sluggishly or that error messages about being “out of memory” are becoming more frequent, then it may be time to add more memory to your laptop. Learning how to install laptop memory can save you a trip to the computer shop and the parts and labor fees that come with it. First, you’ll have to find out what type of memory your laptop uses. Most laptops use DDR-2 memory while the newest laptops currently use DDR-3. It is essential to know which type of memory your laptop uses, as these types are not compatible with one another. In order to find out which type your laptop uses, you may have to consult your owner’s manual or the website of your computer’s manufacturer. There should be some documentation available that tells you which type of memory your laptop uses. Next, you have to find out the maximum amount of memory your laptop can support. Certain chipsets cannot support more than 4GB of memory, while newer laptops can support up to 16GB of memory. Not only is the maximum amount of memory influenced by how many memory slots there are in a laptop (which is only two in most cases), but also by certain hardware limitations. To find out if this applies to your laptop, consult your owner’s manual. Installing the laptop memory is an easy task in most cases, since the installation only requires opening a small port in the underside of the laptop. Most laptops have a dedicated port for adding and removing memory from the laptop. Many older laptops require the removal of the entire plastic underside or in rare cases, the keyboard. Removing the memory only involves retracting a couple of retaining springs in most cases, with the installation of the memory being just as easy.
