Can you install a new fan in a Toshiba laptop that keeps overheating and shutting down and what kind of fan do you recommend? |

Answer
If it's new Warranty it. Most of the fans are propriatary, Some retailers specialize in laptop parts. http://www.impactcomputers.com/ has given me luck in most parts. But lack of pictures on some parts has lead to headaches.
Also Some utilities, Intel Laptops Speed Controll http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/index.html also has a fan controller which I have had work on other systems, but when it didn't work I had to boot safe mode to remove it. (Locks up the Machine)
Try searching for your model and fan / overclock etc utilities. I have found one for an AMD system (Forgot the sytem) that underclocked it more than usuall when idle to save on heat.
Bear in mind most laptops use 5v fans not 12v. Good luck.
Answer
If you have a Toshiba Satellite A75-S229 this is a common problem. According to the information I have found, the processor in the system is intended for a desktop not a laptop and that is why it overheats. The problems may lie more in the processor than in the fan.
One option has been presented to sell the system and buy another and the other has been to try switching out the processor. I am not an expert just offering some possibilities.
